Collaborative art project births meditative electronica
Originally composed by Lowe (a collaborator with Om) to accompany the publication of a collection of his and his wife Lazar’s paintings, Eclipses is a bewitching mix of beat-free analogue ambience seemingly inspired by Eno’s experiments with contrapuntal melodies on Discreet Music. ‘Suno Vidis’ sounds like a lofi, sedated Kraftwerk, its echoing keyboard notes fading in and out, while ‘Ŭyndham-a Horloĝo’s gurgles are a little more dissonant. But it’s the compelling eleven minute opener, ‘Crayon Gym’, that stands out, its simple yet unsettling synths recalling both John Carpenter’s Assault On Precinct 13 and Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtracks.
