I first visited Norway's Træna Festival - on islands out at sea off the coast of Bodø right on the edge of the Arctic Circle - in July 2008. I hope to be there every year now, at least until global warming sinks the archipelago. It wasn’t all Can and Kraftwerk

The third and final instalment of this eye-opening series confirms that while Carnaby Street was still swinging as the 60s became the 70s, the Germans had a groovy revolution of their own going on. Dieter Zimmerman’s brassy take on ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and Adam & Eve’s garage-grooves on ‘The Witch’ are highlights, but few are more trippy than Karl Shiller’s politician sampling ‘High’ and Pulp-endorsed Peter Thomas, whose previously unreleased ‘The World Is Gone’ leaves its vocalist Joe Quick a hysterical gibbering wreck. This is a proud document of an unfairly neglected musical counterculture.
