Promising taster for full length due next year
That Wire are still relevant says as much about their endless creative reinvention as our own acceptance of balding artschool punks. Kicking off with ‘23 Years Too Late’ - ten minutes of pummelling drums, grinding guitars and stream-of-consciousness lyrics in which “Rhizomic gastropods interweave slender tails“ - this four track mini album confirms they’ve moved well on from the concise nature of their recently reissued early work. ‚Our Time’ and ‘No Warning Given’ follow a similarly dark, oppressive pattern, though final track ‘Desert Diving’ is more reminiscent of their underrated mid 80s album A Bell Is A Cup... Welcome back. Again.
